Fasting For Weight Loss
I hope you didn’t come here expecting a quick and easy one word answer to this because, well, it just isn’t that simple. Nothing is ever that simple these days, so stay tuned and we’ll look in to some of the pros and cons of fasting weight loss programs.
Fasting has been around for thousands of years, although it is generally not used as a means of weight loss, but is it really something you should be doing? And more importantly, does fasting weight loss really work for someone who is looking for a long term solution? Obviously you can’t fast forever, even if you are taking supplements or some other “magical” potion that you’ve heard about from celebrities, because there is a high probability that you will get bored of it or just start to lose energy that your body needs to function properly.
Easy come, easy go; you have all heard that old piece of wisdom, right? Well it works both ways. As a general rule to go by in the world of diets, if you lose the weight easily then you will put the weight back on just as easily and maybe even faster. That is just one of the reasons why almost every diet or health expert you talk to will say that fasting to lose weight is not the right method to choose if you want to maintain a healthy weight. Why is that? Because fasting slows down your metabolism which makes it harder for your body to process food after you start eating regular meals again.
But the story doesn’t end there; the issue of fasting is not that simple, just as I mentioned in the beginning. While most experts agree that fasting weight loss is not a good plan in general, they also agree that fasting to lose weight does have some benefits. The benefits don’t involve weight loss though; it is widely accepted, although also controversial to some, that fasting can help detoxify the body particular for people who do not take in enough nutrients.
So if you’re looking for a simple answer to take away from this: fasting weight loss is not the miracle diet that some people, mainly those who are trying to sell you something, want you to believe it is. If you are only doing it for a day or two then it is mostly harmless, but any weight you lose from that is generally only fluids.
