How To Lose Weight Through Fasting Safely

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

We are overloaded with media snippets and articles that shout the issue of obesity into the loudspeaker. This might seem overwhelming, but it is only a reflection of the intensity of the issue, considering the multitude of side effects of being overweight. Everyone is talking about good diet and physical exercise being the perfect combination to lose weight and gain a healthy long life.

It’s common knowledge, that dieting could be easy to consider but maintaining a healthy regime is a Herculean task. The initial enthusiasm soon cracks down due to the long-earned ‘inertia’ brought in by years of living off tantalizing junk food. Thus, we soon give up on this as a bad idea, continue to accept our inability and get back to our beloved French fries and extra cheese burgers.

That ‘emotional baggage’ of switching over to a healthy diet is common. Just as it’s difficult to learn a new language and to start thinking in that language, in a short time, diet control also takes its own time, and of course, some perseverance. This much-needed emotional self control is what we shall focus on, now.

All dieters fear the one C-word like no other – cravings. We all know that we need to control them, but we just can’t! There lies the problem. The solution is based on telling yourself to face the truth. First, you need to lose weight, not merely to look good, slim and sleek, but to lead a long, healthy and happy life. Secondly, thanks to your previous diet orientation, it is a difficult task to switch over, all of a sudden. So be nice to yourself – accept your weaknesses, but only while you also tell yourself that you will get rid of this very vulnerability, for your own good. Then, look for ways that will make you feel better, help you see yourself in better shape. Here again, tell yourself what the new variety of healthy food, though not as delicious as cheese, can do to you.

When it gets too hard, even after directing your thoughts towards the results, stop the strain and treat yourself – but this time, with a promenade by the park, a good movie that will make you laugh, a roller coaster ride or a chat with friends about how they are doing in life. This will relieve the stress you have accumulated due to too much worry over your diet. Now, get back to the plan and see what the wonders of a cool mind can do!

So it’s all about listening to your body and mind, and talking back to them. Over a week or so, you’ll even start appreciating feel-good-factor of the green leafy veggies in contrast to the sluggishness from the heavy fatty foodstuff. This is when there’s no looking back and up the hill of good health. Think better, eat healthy.

Fasting Weight Loss – Is It Safe?

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

The best proved mantra to lose weight that has the approval of most of the fitness gurus is to eat a healthy diet and then exercise regularly. But most of us consider that exercise is waste of time and efforts, and are thus looking for ways that are faster and require very less efforts. Fasting is one such way, and has been tried and tested over time. While fasting might work for a few people, it is not always considered a healthy way to lose weight. Moreover, over a period of time you tend to gain more weight than you would lose if you stuck to dieting.

A healthy diet requires you to eat about six small meals per day, on proper timings, which can be considered to be a tiresome job by many people. They rather prefer not to eat anything, and achieve the much wanted results during the first few days. The problem is that even if they lose some weight, at some point the fast will come to an end. When that happens, in no time, they will regain the weight that they lost and sometimes the amount of weight gained is much more than the amount of weight lost.

According to the gurus, when we fast our intake of food reduces drastically, our body makes efforts to store most of the food it receives, thereby slowing down the rates of metabolism. Thus it tries to save all the calories. Saving calories is something that totally goes against weight loss because the whole concept of weight loss revolves around burning calories. People who fast regularly also fall sick very frequently because they are deprived of the nutrients required by the body. This leads to certain heart problems that could become a very big problem as age advances.

The concept of fasting to lose weight is as old as man himself on earth. But this age old method is not very much preferred by the experts as they believe that it leads to bad health and causes many other disorders. They say that exercise and a healthy diet is the only proven way to keep on top of our weight.
People who believe in fasting are right in their belief, but they ignore the side effects of fasting.

Thus, the best way to lose weight is to adopt a very simple lifestyle with proper eating habits and most importantly, you need to exercise regularly. This method to lose weight works on any kind of body built and is therefore suitable to each of us.
